Although the body is comprised of hundreds of parts, one single organ uses one-fifth of the oxygen we intake: the brain. Our mental processes become noticeably sharper when we make full use of our breath. Conscious breathing patterns help stabilize attention, and allow us to remain lucid and think more clearly in the given moment.
Our breath can calm the mind and stabilize our nervous system. When we breathe in a fully functional way, we access the parasympathetic nervous system which brings relaxation to the mind and body. Studies have shown that proper breathing promotes alpha brain waves and relaxes the body and mind. With time, we can learn to enter a more relaxed state, reduce stress and work more efficiently. Breathing consciously can help us to control our thought processes and harness our talents to operate effectively in our daily lives.
